Jun 14th 2012, 15:26 by The Economist online   More countries are saying that China is world's leading economic power 중국이 세계 경제를 이끄는 나라가 될 것   AMERICA has been the world's leading economic power since 1871. 미국은 1871년 이래 세계 경제를 이끄는 선봉장이었다.   It has contributed some 30% on average to world GDP since 1960 and made up 22% of the cake in 2011 (at market exchange rates). 미국은 1960년 이래 평균적으로 세계 GDP의 30%에 기여해왔고, 2011년에는 22%를 차지했다.   China meanwhile, contributes just 10%, but has seen its share of world GDP rise meteorically, from just 1.8% in 1991. 반면, 중국은 겨우 10%에 불과하지만 1991년 1.8%를 차지했던 것에 비하면 엄청난 증가라고 할 수 있다.   The perception in some countries that America is no longer the world's pre-eminent economy is therefore somewhat premature. 몇몇 나라에서 생각하듯 미국이 더 이상 세계 경제의 지배자가 아니라는 인식은 아직은 시기상조라고 할 수 있겠다     As the chart shows, such perceptions vary enormously across the world according to a new poll carried out in 21 countries by the Pew Research Centre. 위 차트에서도 볼 수 있듯이, '퓨 리서치센터'가 21개 국가에서 수행한 설문에 따르면 미국이 더 이상 세계 최강의 경제국이 아니라는 인식이 널리 퍼져있는 것 같다.   There has been an increasing swing towards China; in 2008 just one country polled thought China more economically powerful than America, now 11 do. 중국에 대한 인식에 대단한 변화가 있었다. 2008년에는 겨우 한 나라만 중국이 미국보다 더 경제적 힘에 있어 우위를 차지한다고 답했었지만, 지금은 그렇게 답한 나라가 11개 국가다.   The residents of the two countries at the heart of the discussion seem to have a rather self-deprecating view of themselves: on balance, Americans believe China to be more economically powerful, whereas the Chinese think America is. 논쟁의 중심에 있는 두 나라 사람들은 오히려 스스로를 낮춰 생각하고 있다. 미국인들은 중국이, 중국인들은 미국이 더 경제적으로 힘이 세다고 생각한다.   Perceptions aside, on current trends, China will surpass America somewhere around 2018 according to our interactive chart. 사람들의 인식을 제쳐두고서라도, 우리(이코노미스트志)의 전망에 따르면 중국이 2018년경에는 미국을 넘어설 것으로 보인다.
