Focus Manufacturing activity Jul 3rd 2012, 18:46 by The Economist online   GLOBAL manufacturing contracted in June for the second consecutive month, according to surveys of purchasing managers by Markit and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), two research firms. Overall the second quarter registered the worst manufacturing conditions in three years. Within the euro area, output grew only in Austria and Ireland. Germany's rate of decline steepened to 45.0, its worst level since June 2009. (For more on manufacturing activity in the euro area see here.) In America, manufacturing shrank for the first time since July 2009. According to HSBC, India's purchasing managers' index rose for the fourth month in a row to 55.0, while China's index contracted for the eighth consecutive month to 48.2.   구매관리자 지수(PMI)를 산출하는 Markit과 ISM의 조사에 따르면 글로벌 생산활동은 2개월 연속해서 줄어들었다. 2분기('12년 4~6월)는 종합적으로 지난 3년 중 가장 생산환경이 좋지 못했던 분기였다. 유로존 지역에서는 오스트리아와 아일랜드에서만 성장세를 보였고, 독일은 2009년 6월 이후 최저치인 45.0을 기록하며 급격한 하락세를 보였다. 미국은 2009년 7월 이후 처음으로 생산활동이 수축하는 모습을 보였다. HSBC에 따르면, 인도의 PMI 지수는 4개월째 올라 55.0을 기록한 반면, 중국은 8개월째 하락하며 48.2를 기록했다.
